Dream Series 1.4: Dream Circles Explained
Unlock the Wisdom of Your Dreams Using Group Consciousness
Step Into the Mystery of Dreams
Have you ever woken up from a dream that felt like a profound message from your soul, yet just out of reach? Dreams speak in symbols, emotions, and stories, offering glimpses into the deeper currents of our lives. Yet, their meanings can remain elusive, like whispers from another world.
In ancient times, dreams were revered as sacred messages. Throughout history, cultures worldwide have honored dreams as a source of guidance and storytelling. Indigenous communities gathered at dawn to share their visions, weaving individual dreams into the wisdom of the whole. In ancient Greece, seekers slept in temples to receive healing dreams from the gods and explored symbolic narratives through theater. Today, we consume stories through books, films, and news, but the most powerful stories often go untold. Sharing our personal stories, the ones rising from the depths of our dream lives, can be a powerful way to connect, heal, and grow.
A dream circle is a space to reclaim this ancient practice. It is a sacred gathering where dreams are shared, reflected upon, and honored. You don’t have to share a dream to receive its wisdom—sometimes, another’s dream unlocks something hidden within you.
How a Dream Circle Works
Dream circles are held in a safe, structured format where all insights are offered with respect for the dreamer’s personal truth. Dreams are not puzzles to be “solved” but living experiences that unfold over time. In our circles, we mostly follow Robert Moss’s Lightning Dreamwork Process*, which allows for deep exploration in a focused and uplifting way.
The Lightning Dreamwork Process
This process, which takes about 8-12 minutes per dream, ensures that sharing remains focused and meaningful. Here’s how it works:
Tell the Dream – The dreamer shares the dream in the present tense, as if it’s happening now, while others listen attentively, stepping into the experience.
Explore Feelings – The facilitator asks the dreamer how they felt during the dream and upon waking. Emotions are key to understanding the dream’s impact.
Reality Check – The dreamer reflects on whether any dream elements exist in waking life or if they could happen in the future.
Curiosities – The facilitator asks the dreamer what they are most curious about or what questions they have regarding the dream.
Group Insights – Participants share thoughts starting with “If this were my dream….” This keeps reflections personal rather than prescriptive or intrusive. For example:
If this were my dream, I’d wonder why the tiger appeared.
If this were my dream, I might re-enter it to see how the adventure ends.
If this were my dream, it would remind me of a time I faced a big fear.
Action Steps – The dreamer decides how to honor the dream and integrate it into waking life. The possibilities are endless, but this could include sketching an image from the dream, researching a symbol, or re-entering the dream through visualization.
“Bumper Sticker” Wisdom – The dreamer sums up their key takeaway in a short phrase, like a motto.
*This format is adapted from Robert Moss’s The Three “Only” Things and my own experiences facilitating dream circles and classes.

My Background in Dreamwork
I hold a Dream Studies Certificate from Sofia University, where I studied various dreamwork techniques, symbolism, archetypes, and mythology. I have completed three levels of the Active Dream Facilitator Training with my teacher and mentor Robert Moss, who has authored several books on dreaming, including Dreaming the Soul Back Home, Conscious Dreaming, and his latest entitled Growing Big Dreams. I’ve kept a dream journal for over 30 years and continue to be amazed by the insights dreams reveal. My background in transpersonal psychology and spiritual studies allows me to bridge deep dreamwork with personal growth. As a Transformational Coach, I help people explore dreams as one of many paths to connect to their higher selves and each other in meaningful ways.
Dreams hold immense wisdom as they invite us to remember, explore, and transform. Whether you are new to dreamwork or already walk the dreamer’s path, I welcome you to dive deeper.
